  3. Diskeeper[R] Lite for Windows NT[TM] V1.0.121
  4.  
  5. This text file provides information you should know about 
  6. this beta release version of Diskeeper Lite.
  7.  
  8. CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE
  9. =======================
  10.  
  11. This version of Diskeeper Lite (V1.0.121) contains changes
  12. which reset the expiration date to 30 days from installation,
  13. even if a previous version was installed.
  14.  
  15.  
  16. PLATFORMS AND OPERATING SYSTEM VERSIONS SUPPORTED
  17. =================================================
  18.  
  19. This version of Diskeeper Lite is supported on Intel x86 
  20. platforms running Windows NT 4.0 builds 1345 and higher.  
  21. Other versions of Diskeeper Lite that support RISC 
  22. platforms are available, or will be available soon.

  25. REQUIRED PRIVILEGES
  26. ===================
  27.  
  28. You must have Administrator privileges to install and
  29. operate Diskeeper Lite.

  32. INSTALLING DISKEEPER LITE
  33. =========================
  34.  
  35. Follow these steps to install Diskeeper Lite:
  36.  
  37. 1.  From Windows NT Explorer or File Manager, double click on
  38.     SETUP.EXE in the directory where this README.TXT file resides.
  39.  
  40. 2.  Read the information displayed in the Setup Installation 
  41.     Wizard boxes and click the "Next" button as appropriate.
  42.  
  43. 3.  In the "Choose Destination Location" dialog box, either 
  44.     accept the default installation location, or click the 
  45.     "Browse" button to specify a different disk and/or 
  46.     directory.  If you specify a directory that does not exist, 
  47.     the setup program will create it for you.  Click the 
  48.     "Next" button after specifying a disk and directory, or to 
  49.     accept the default installation location.

  51. 4.  After a short period of copying files, the installation is 
  52.     complete.

  55. UNINSTALLING DISKEEPER LITE
  56. ===========================
  57.  
  58. Follow these steps to remove Diskeeper from your computer:
  59.  
  60. 1.  From Control Panel, double click "Add/Remove Programs".
  61.  
  62. 2.  Click the "Install/Uninstall" tab.
  63.  
  64. 3.  Highlight "Diskeeper Lite".
  65.  
  66. 4.  Click the "Add/Remove" button.  This removes the Diskeeper 
  67.     program files from your computer.
  68.  
  69.  
  70. KNOWN INCONSISTENCIES IN THIS RELEASE
  71. =====================================
  72.  
  73. 1.  On NTFS partitions, Diskeeper Lite will sometimes fail to 
  74.     defragment certain files.
  75.  
  76. 2.  On volumes with very little free space, compressed files 
  77.     may not be completely defragmented.
  78.  
  79. 3.  Under certain circumstances on NTFS partitions, Diskeeper
  80.     Lite may encounter a file which contains inconsistent file
  81.     information.  If this occurs, Diskeeper Lite displays the 
  82.     file name and terminates the current scan of that partition.
  83.     Moving or deleting the questionable file, or reformatting 
  84.     the partion sould eliminate the error.
  85.  
  86. 4.  In some instances, the Diskeeper Lite installation directory 
  87.     is not deleted when Diskeeper Lite is uninstalled.  In such 
  88.     cases, the directory can simply be deleted manually after
  89.     running the Uninstall process.
  90.  
  91. These situations are currently being addressed and are planned
  92. to be corrected in a future version of Diskeeper Lite.  Check 
  93. the Executive Software Web site (www.execsoft.com) for current
  94. answers to frequently-asked questions, and to upload Diskeeper 
  95. Lite upgrades
